“The Oaks” is a building that always makes me slow down when I pass the outskirts of Darfield. A majestic old lady, once a fine dining restaurant with a wrap-around deck that seems made for a cool glass of wine in the sunshine.
Sophisticated and elegant, she feels full of history and quiet stories waiting to be told. There’s something about her presence that makes you pause and imagine the life she has seen over the years.
I don’t know where her journey will lead next, but I knew she deserved a place on my drawing board. This graphite drawing is my way of preserving a small piece of her character and charm.
